Superiority

SiLinkTM SCA-K08E silane is a monomeric alkylalkoxysilane that, when exposed to moisture, is reactive with the minerals. The monomer can penetrate deeply into a substrate, and then react to form a protective surface surrounding each microscopic particle. This protective surface is extremely durable and leads to significant improvements in weather resistance. The silane is easy to dissolve in organic solvents to form clear, colorless, stable solutions.

1. High-Performance Penetrating Sealers: Premium-grade penetrating sealers are easily formulated by blending 10 to 40 percent SCA-K08E in alcohols or organic solvents.

2. Long-Lasting Wear Protection: Water repellency that lasts years on surface of highway bridge decks has been documented with alkyalkoxysilanes.

3. Filler Dispersion: SCA-K08E can be used as a surface modifier to generate hydrophobicity(e.g. mineral fillers or inorganic pigments) . The medium-chain alkyl functionality in unique compound properties when SCA-K08E treated minerals or pigments are incorporated into polymers e.g. PP, PE. Loading levels of 0.5 to 1.5 wt% SCA-K08E based on the weight of minerals or pigments are typically recommended.

Abstract

N-Octyltriethoxysilane (CAS No. 2943-75-1), silane coupling agent SCA-K08E, is a monomeric medium-chain alkylfunctional silane. SCA-K08E is a clear colorless liquid soluble in common non-polarganic solvents (e. G. Petroleum ether, toluene). However its low volatility viscosity make SCA-K08E an easy-to-handle additive. During the hydrolysis reaction between water SCA-K08E a certain amount of ethanol (VOC) is released.

SCA-K08E silane can be used as a surface modifier to generate hydrophobicity (e. G. On concrete, glass, inorganic pigments, mineral fillers). The medium-chain alkyl functionality results in unique compound properties when SCA-K08E treated minerals pigments are incorporated into polymers, e. G. Polyethylene polypropylene. Loading levels of 0.5 to 1.5% wt. SCA-K08E based on the weight of filler pigment are typically recommended.
SCA-K08E silane can also be used to improve the compatibility of mineral fillers pigments in polyolefins to ease their dispersion in nonpolar matrices.
SCA-K08E silane is a small molecule to allow fdeep penetration into the cementitious surface. This material reacts with moisture in the air in the substrate in the presence of an alkaline acidic environment to produce hydroxy groups. These hydroxy groups will bond with the substrate itself to produce a hydrophobic treatment that inhibits water absorption into the substrate. An alkaline environment, such as new concrete, will catalyze the reaction speed the formation of the hydrophobic surface.
